In 1956 there were no Baptist Church's on the Island of St.Croix with a population of
17,000; two towns Frederiksted and Christansted and 65 small villages were on the
island. The Lord chose to meet the need for a Bible-teaching Baptist Church by sending
Missionaries to St. Croix.
He called Clifford and LeEllen Bubar to be those Missionaries. They were challenged by
a mission class at Trinity College in Clearwater, Florida and by a Missionary. On
October 1, 1956, the Bubar's landed on St.Croix. with young hearts eager to serve the
Lord. The Bubar's presented the gospel to the lost, went from door to door in the
villages with Bible lessons, and held open air meetings. Soon a building was needed
to hold regular Church Services. Some of the first services were held in the old ruins in
Hogenberg Village. Many heard the gospel for the first time and were saved. A larger
place was needed and the meetings were moved to the town of Frederiksted and held
in a rented house, thus Frederiksted Baptist Church was born.
A permanent place was needed for service, with help from God, Pastor Bubar found an
acre of land right next to the house where service was being held. With sacrificial giving
the land was bought for $1,400.00, and the work on the building begun. In October 1963
the work was completed, and on January 23, 1964 Frederiksted Baptist Church was
dedicated.
In June 1970 Pastor Bubar felt the call of God to build another Church on the Island, this
time located in the central part of the island. Pastor Bubar resigned from the
Frederiksted Baptist Church at that time. The Church called the Rev. Wilfred Richards in
June of 1970. Rev Richards Pastored for two years and resigned. The Church then
called Rev. Frank Rogers who pastored from February 06, 1972, until his death in
March of 2000.
Deacon Randolph Pascal, was asked to act as Interim Pastor. Deacon Pascal served
as interim Pastor for four years. From March of 2000- May 2004. In April of 2004 the
Church called Rev. John Gilbert to the Pastorate.
God's hand has always been on Frederiksted Baptist Church, there has been great
growth over its years in existence. Today Frederiksted Baptist Church is still growing
both physically and spiritually. God is still adding to the Church those that would be
saved.
We believe that the Bible was written by men divinely
inspired and that it is the only infallible rule of faith and
practice
That there is only one true and living God, revealed to us
as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, he is the same in
essence and equal in every divine perfection.
That man was created holy, innocent and happy, but by the
disobedience of man, sin entered into the world, and
death passed upon all men for that all have sinned.
That it is duty of all men to repent and believe on the Lord
Jesus Christ.
That nothing can separate true believers from the love of
God, but that they will be kept by His power through faith
unto salvation.
That Christian Baptism is administered by immersion of
believers in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and
Holy Spirit, and that believers only are entitled to partake of
the Lord's Supper.
That there will be a general resurrection of the dead, and a
general judgment when all mankind will be judged
according to their deeds, that the wicked shall go away
into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into life
eternal.
That we are enpowered by the Holy Spirit to take the
Gospel to all mankind. We were given this authority by
Jesus Christ Himself, it is our duty.
